Man Arrested In String Of Sex Assaults On Detroit's Southwest Side

DETROIT (CBS Detroit) Detroit police arrested Ali Nasser Alriashi, 31, Monday in connection with several sexual assaults that occurred on the city's southwest side.

The arrest came about when officers from the Fourth Precinct Special Operations Unit were conducting surveillance following a series of sexual assaults on Fort Street. They saw a gold 2004 Mercury Mountaineer matching the description given of the vehicle involved in the assaults.

Police stopped the vehicle at Livernois and Fort to investigate further, and in the midst of the discussion officers were were flagged down by a 33-year-old woman who told them she had been sexually assaulted by the suspect in the vehicle a month prior.

Officers impounded the vehicle and arrested the suspect for criminal sexual conduct and transported him to the Detroit Detention Center for processing.

"Investigators believe that the suspect has committed several sexual offenses against women in the southwest Detroit area for the past four months," police said in a press release.

Ali Nasser Alriashi was charged with criminal sexual conduct first degree, criminal sexual conduct third degree and kidnapping. He was arraigned on Tuesday, June 9, 2015 on a $250,000, 10 percent bond.

Police applauded the effort it took to track down and arrest Alriashi.

"It takes vigilant work from these officers to bring closure to these cases and to the victims," police said in a release.
