PONTIAC (WWJ) - A 29-year-old man has been arrested in connection with in a series of thefts from boats docked in Harrison Township.

According to the Macomb County Sheriff's office, the suspect — Kyle William Marter of Harrison Township — was identified by tipsters after a photo of him was posted to social media.

Investigators say Marter stole at least three batteries from boats earlier this month but was caught in the act last Friday by a woman who was checking on her boat on South River Road.

When the woman confronted the man, sheriff's officials say, he told her that it was his uncle's boat and he was there to shrink-wrap it. He fled the scene but not before the woman snapped a picture.

Marter was arrested at his home on Thursday and charged Friday with three counts of breaking and entering — each 5 year felonies. Bond was set at $5,000.

He is due back in court on Wednesday, Nov. 9.
