Man Arraigned In Case Of Setting Woman On Fire

DETROIT (AP) - A 59-year-old Detroit man has been arraigned on several charges in connection with the severe burning of his girlfriend after gasoline was poured on her and she was set afire during an argument.

Donald Chapman was arraigned Sunday by video and is accused of assault with intent to murder, torture, arson and domestic violence. The 45-year-old woman is being treated for burns over about 40 percent of her body, according to authorities.

Chapman was arrested after the Friday assault in an apartment on Detroit's east side.

A judge ordered him jailed without bond and set a hearing for June 20.

A Wayne County prosecutor's spokeswoman didn't know if Chapman has an attorney. The Associated Press left a message Monday morning with the Romulus district court in which he was arraigned.
