Man Apparently Electrocuted By Fallen Power Line In Detroit

DETROIT (WWJ/AP) - A man has been killed in Detroit after apparently coming in contact with a power line knocked down by a tree branch during a rain storm.

According to reports, someone called 911 around 5 p.m. Friday after finding the man in an eastside alley along Stratman Street, in a neighborhood near I-94 and Chalmers Avenue.

Relatives said 24-year-old Emmanuel Ward had not been seen since leaving his grandmother's home Thursday afternoon.

DTE Energy spokeswoman Randi Berris says the branch that fell across the power line was about 10 feet long. The weight of the branch snapped the utility pole.

About 57,000 DTE Energy customers in the Detroit area lost power during Thursday's storms.
