Man, 75, Dies After SUV Fleeing Police Slams Into His Van

ORION TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) — A 75-year-old Independence Township man has died after his van was struck by a car fleeing police in Orion Township.

The Oakland County sheriff's office says Friday that deputies were responding Thursday night to a report of a prescription fraud at a pharmacy.

A 22-year-old Pontiac man was arrested inside the pharmacy. Two men and two women were waiting outside in a stolen SUV and drove off when other deputies arrived.

A deputy tried to make a traffic stop, but the driver of the SUV refused to stop and struck the van after driving through a red light.

The van's driver was pronounced dead at a hospital.

The 30-year-old driver of the SUV is under police watch at a hospital. His three passengers have not been charged.
