Man, 26, Dies After Kayak Capsizes In Western Michigan Lake

DAYTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) — State police say a 26-year-old man drowned while kayaking on a lake in western Michigan.

A statement from the state police post in Hart says troopers got a call about 3:20 a.m. Sunday saying that the man was kayaking with a friend on Martin Lake when both kayaks capsized. The post says the man couldn't swim and his friend couldn't bring him to shore.

The lake is in Newaygo County's Dayton Township, about 25 miles northeast of Muskegon.

State police say troopers and two members of the Newaygo County sheriff's dive team were able to recover the man's body. His name is being withheld while family members are notified.

State police say alcohol "appears to be a factor" in the death.
