Magical Floating Christmas Tree Photographed On Northern Michigan Lake

GLEN ARBOR (CBS DETROIT) - "For those of us who live in lake country - when you put docks away --that marks the end of lake season. This lets you feel like the lake is still alive -- it's magical," said photographer Jeff Rabidoux.

Rabidoux is referring to the floating Christmas tree he photographed in the small northern Michigan town of Glen Arbor.

Travelers along M-22 nearing Glen Lake are treated to the unusual site of a generously decorated Fraser Fir gently swaying in the water -- in a small boat -- anchored in the lake.

Frank Siepker Jr., who lives on the lake, is the not-so-secret lake decorator according to MLive. "People dress up their yards for Christmas; the lake is kind of our yard," he says. "Everybody gets a kick out of it."

The floating Christmas tree is powered by solar-powered batteries and set on a timer.

"It captures your heart," says Rabidoux of the image that appears as you drive across the bridge connecting the 'little' and 'big' Glen Lakes, "there's a comforting feel to it."

Shot under December's full moon -- Rabidoux says a lot of people think it's snow on ice -- it's actually the reflection of the moonlight around the boat.
