Madison Heights Man Busted In Teen Sex Sting
CLINTON TOWNSHIP (WWJ) - A Macomb County man is behind bars facing multiple charge after police say he made plans to have sex with an underage girl.
Macomb County Sheriff Lt. John Michalke says 46-year-old David Mapley of Madison Heights placed an ad on a popular website and began communicating with whom he thought was a young girl.
In reality, he was chatting with a detective with the Macomb Area Computer Enforcement Team (M.A.C.E), posing as a teen.
"The individual first communicated via the original website and then it moved to a different social media platform, but eventually arrangements were made for the individual to come to a location in Macomb Township on the pretense of meeting an underage girl for the purposes of engaging in sexual activity," Michalke said.
Mapley was arrested when he got to the meeting location and police seized evidence from his home.
He was arraigned via video in 41B District Court of Clinton Township Monday on three counts of child sexually abusive activity (a 20 year felony), computers – communicating with another to commit crime (15 years), computers – communicating w/another to commit crime (10 years) and children – accosting for immoral purposes (4 years).
Bond was set at $75,000 cash or surety.
Michalke said this is the second case like this in a week.
"Our department also arrested another individual on Friday," he said. "So, you know, we'll continue to investigate them, and as we come across these people online that are posing a threat to our children we are going to continue to pursue them vigorously."
Mapley, who remained lodged at the Macomb County Jail later Monday, is due back in court on Monday, March 14.
