Macomb Township Homes Evacuated Due To Gas Main Break

MACOMB TOWNSHIP (WWJ) - Multiple homes in Macomb Township were temporarily evacuated on Thursday as a result of a gas main break.

Consumers Energy spokeswoman Debra Dodd said a plumbing contractor hit a two-inch plastic gas main while working outside a home on White Plains Drive near Garfield and 21 Mile Road.

Consumers workers were still on the scene at 2 p.m. as were Macomb Township firefighters. She said crews had not found any presence of gas in the any of the homes at that point.

Dodd said the evacuations were only a precaution.

No illnesses in connection with the break were reported.
