Portion Of Macomb Mall Briefly Closed Due To Bomb Scare

ROSEVILLE (WWJ) - A suspicious package that prompted Roseville police to shut down a section of Macomb Mall Tuesday afternoon turned out to be nothing to be alarmed about.

Local resident Brenda McCain called WWJ Newsradio 950 when she encountered police cars and yellow tape upon arrival at the shopping center at Gratiot and 12 Mile Road.

Police closed the north section of the mall as a precaution as a bomb squad was called in to investigate.

"I went through Dick's trying to go into the mall; you're not allowed into the mall that way and any other opposite side door to get into the mall," McCain said. "So I was trying to find out what's going on."

Roseville Police Chief James Berlin said the package, which was found next to a transformer, turned out not to be dangerous. He did not elaborate as to the nature of the package.

The north section of the mall has since been reopened.
