Macomb County Resolves Over 100 Warrants For Back Child Support With Sweep

MACOMB (WWJ) - Officials in Macomb County say their week-long sweep to resolve warrants for back child support has been successful.

The enforcement, led by Sheriff Anthony Wickersham and the Macomb County Friend of the Court, kicked off on Monday. It gave residents with a warrant an opportunity to appear in person and take care of the matter without being arrested.

Thomas Blohm, enforcement division director with Friend of the Court, said they've been able to resolve over 100 warrants in just four days -- the vast majority having a bond totaling over $230,000.

Blohm said anyone with an outstanding Friend of the Court warrant has until close of business on Friday to voluntarily resolve the matter or deal with the law.

"If they show up, we'll see if they qualify for a special program to help them reduce their state-owed arrearages," Blohm told WWJ's Chrystal Knight. "Disappearing is only going to work so long and we encourage them to find us before the Macomb County Sheriff's Office finds them."

Blohm said the public is encouraged to provide tips regarding the whereabouts of individuals with outstanding Friend of the Court warrants by phone at 586-469-5756.
