Pontiac man shot by Roseville police after ramming patrol vehicle at police station

A man was taken into custody and is receiving medical treatment at a hospital after an incident early Monday in which he is accused of ramming a police vehicle behind the Roseville Police Department.

About 4:39 a.m. Monday, the Macomb County Sheriff's Office said a 36-year-old Roseville man who was driving a Pontiac G5 rammed a Roseville police officer's marked SUV while the officer was inside and parked. The man then got out of the Pontiac and was holding a knife.

Authorities said two other officers who witnessed the incident ordered the man to drop the knife, but he did not comply. Officers shot at the man, striking him, deputies said.

The officers were in the area behind the police station on VFW Memorial Drive as they were preparing to go to an emergency call, deputies said.

The Pontiac man is now at an area hospital, where he is reported to be in stable condition, according to deputies. The officer who was inside the patrol vehicle involved in the incident suffered minor injuries. The two officers who fired at the suspect are uninjured.

The Macomb County Sheriff's Office is handling the investigation.
