Pedestrian Hit, Killed On Van Dyke Expressway

SHELBY TOWNSHIP (WWJ) - M-53, the Van Dyke Expressway, was closed to traffic for the morning commute on Monday, following a fatal accident.

According to police, a pedestrian was hit by a car in the southbound lanes of traffic near the 22 Mile Road bridge.

Police shut down southbound M-53, from 23 Mile Road to M-59, for hours for an investigation.  At 9:30 a.m., traffic was backed up for miles — but the freeway has since reopened.

It's still not clear how the victim ended up in traffic; and there were no details immediately available about the victim.
