LUNA Bars Recalled Over Allergy Risk

DETROIT (WWJ) - A popular energy bar is being recalled due to mislabeled packaging.

Clif Bar and Company is voluntarily recalling some 15-count boxes of Chocolate Chunk LUNA Bars that were shipped to stores nationwide.

The company says the bars were made with macadamia nut butter, but the wrappers do not include macadamia nuts in the ingredient list or allergen statement. People with an allergy to macadamia nuts run the risk of a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume the LUNA Bars.

The recalled products include "best by" dates of 11NOV14 and 14OCT14, along with UPC code 7-22252-10068-9.

No other LUNA Bar products, pack sizes, flavors or 'best by' date codes are affected.

The company is strongly advising consumers who have macadamia nut allergies not to consume these mislabeled bars. No allergic reactions have been reported to date.
