Local Vigil Held For Those Killed During Protests In Ukraine
WARREN (WWJ) - Members of metro Detroit's strong Ukrainian community are held a vigil Sunday night for those killed in protests in the country's capital of Kiev.
Boris Potapenko is a leader in the Ukrainian community and noted that the vigil held at St. Josaphat Ukrainian Catholic Church in Warren was open to everyone.
"We really would like to have all of our fellow Michiganians in the metro Detroit area join us in acknowledging the huge sacrifice for freedom that the Ukrainian people are making as we speak," said Potapenko.
He said that the group totally rejects Russia's involvement or trying to become a party to negotiations regarding Ukraine future.
The Ukrainian community already rallying to ship several loads of medical supplies to the eastern European nation.
The event centered around prayer for those killed or injured during the recent protests in Kiev, the country's capital.
