Loaded Gun Found In Carry-On Luggage At Detroit Metro

DETROIT (CBS Detroit) A loaded .380 caliber firearm was discovered in the carry-on luggage of a passenger flying through Detroit Metro Wayne County Airport Wednesday, officials said.

When it was discovered, security agents immediately notified Wayne County Airport Police, who responded and arrested the man on a local charge.

This is the 14th firearm to be discovered in carry-on luggage at Detroit so far this year.

TSA screens approximately 1.8 million passengers and their luggage every day for prohibited items, including weapons and explosives.

"TSA takes the discovery of prohibited items seriously and urges all passengers to check the contents of their bags before leaving home to ensure they are not bringing any prohibited items to the airport — including firearms, firearm parts and ammunition," the Transportation Safety Agency said in a press release.

Firearms are prohibited in carry-on bags, but can be transported in checked bags if they are unloaded, properly packed and declared to the airline.
