Live Stream Apps Come To Android Devices

SOUTHFIELD (CBS Detroit) - Android users who have been waiting to live stream their life moments on Periscope and Meerkat finally can download the apps.

Periscope and Meerkat, which are both apps which utilize the cameras on smart phones to broadcast an event to followers on Twitter, initially launched for iPhones.

The competing apps have now both launched Android versions of their programs. Meerkat requires devices running 4.3 KitKat or higher while Periscope requires 4.4 KitKat or higher.

"Periscope on Android has all the same core features that Periscope users have come to love: start a public or private broadcast, choose to allow comments from just those you follow, and interact with a broadcaster by chatting or sending hearts," Periscope wrote in a blog post.

The company stated that Periscope on Android features a Google Material-inspired design, control over additional Push Notification settings and a "Resume notification" to allow users to keep watching where they left off if the broadcast they are watching is interrupted.

Periscope launched the Android version of their app this week, and Meerkat launched their Android version earlier in May.
