Lions Won't Rest Players In Final Game, Martha Ford Is Tired Of Losing

By Danny Cox

The Detroit Lions have had a rather forgettable season even though flashes of pure talent and brilliance have come about from time to time. Still, everyone is tired of losing and it goes all the way to the top. Maybe that's why the team will play to win in Sunday's season finale.

Lions' owner Martha Ford is simply tired of losing

Detroit Lions owner Martha Ford is not happy with the losses that the Detroit Lions have accumulated this season and she's ready for it to stop. The team began 1-7 this year and that was when team president Tom Lewand and general manager Martin Mayhew were shown the door and fired. Ernie Accorsi is advising the Lions as they search for a new GM, and he has heard the feelings of Martha Ford.

"All I know is she wants to win, now," Accorsi told ESPN writer Johnette Howard, who wrote a long feature for the Worldwide Leader on the 90-year-old Ford. "She wants this so badly. She really does. She's tired of losing."

There are going to be a lot of changes coming to the Detroit Lions in 2016, and it will happen on the field, on the sidelines and in the executive offices. Martha Ford is done with losing and wants to have people in place that will win.

Calvin Johnson and others won't be rested for season finale

So as not to finish the season on a losing note, the Detroit Lions are preparing for Sunday's season finale against the Chicago Bears in a big way. Even though the playoffs have been out of the picture for a while now, the Lions have no intention of resting Calvin Johnson, Matthew Stafford, or any players that are healthy enough to go.

Johnson has dealt with an ankle injury for half of the season, but he's still played in every single game and he will be ready for Sunday. It's not quite known what will happen with him after the regular season is over. He's due more than $24 million against the cap next season and with production going down, the Lions may not be willing to pay him as much money.

"I'm not going to sit just because," Johnson said. "It's usually something bugging (me) if I'm out of the game. Something that won't allow me to play, for the most part. So I look forward to playing Sunday."

Head coach Jim Caldwell has confirmed that if a player is healthy enough to play, then they'll play.
