Lions Sign Justin Forsett

With their ground game hitting the skids of late, the Lions have signed Justin Forsett. The 30-year-old running back was released by the Baltimore Ravens last Tuesday and worked out for the Lions on Monday.

Forsett himself broke the news via Twitter on Tuesday afternoon. It has since been confirmed by multiple sources.

In three games with the Ravens this season, Forsett totaled 98 yards on 31 carries. He was used mostly as a backup to Terrance West, before being listed as inactive in Week 4.

Forsett has spent the majority of his eight-year career as a backup, although he boasts a very respectable 4.8 yards per carry over 102 games. His best season came in 2014, when he racked up eight touchdowns and over 1,200 yards with the Ravens.

The Lions ran the ball effectively in the first two games of the season, buoyed by the tandem of Ameer Adbullah and Theo Riddick. But Abdullah went down in Week 2 with a foot injury while Riddick hasn't been as efficient with his carries since.

On top of that, backup Dwayne Washington has been hindered by an ankle injury he sustained in Week 4.

In their last three games, the Lions have rushed for just 196 yards on 68 carries, for an average of 2.8 yards per carry. They haven't scored a rushing touchdown since Week 1 against the Indianapolis Colts.
