ALLEN PARK - The Detroit Lions have released cornerback Bill Bentley, the team announced Thursday after the conclusion of its three-day mandatory minicamp.

During his three NFL seasons, Bentley has struggled with injuries. As rookie he missed much of the season thanks to a shoulder injury, and last year he suffered a season-ending ACL tear in the season opener.

In 2013, his second year in the league, Bentley played in 13 games and made 29 tackles.

The Lions added depth at the cornerback position during the draft, using their third-round pick on Alex Carter from Stanford and their sixth-round pick on Quandre Diggs from Texas.

Bentley was a third-round selection by the Lions in 2012.
