Lawyer: Woman Denies Embezzling From Little League

CLINTON TOWNSHIP (AP) — Prosecutors say a former treasurer stole $300,000 from a Detroit-area Little League organization.

Karen Ann Dimitrie was arraigned Friday in Clinton Township District Court on a charge of embezzlement over $100,000.

Defense lawyer Dan Garon says Dimitrie "adamantly" denies the accusation.

The 63-year-old Dimitrie was released on a $10,000 personal bond and ordered to appear at an Oct. 22 preliminary examination.

Police say Dimitrie embezzled the money starting in 2008 through late 2013 or early 2014 and wrote checks to herself.

She faces 20 years in prison if convicted as charged.
