Lawsuit Washes Out Torch Lake Sandbar Parties For Next 5 Years

CLEARWATER TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WWJ/AP) - A judge has stopped a promoter from hosting parties for the next five years on a sandbar in a northern Michigan lake.

Beatbox Beverages also can't organize or sponsor bashes on the Torch Lake sandbar in Clearwater Township, according to reports.

Two other promoters are prohibited from hosting parties there without first providing for crowd control, safety and sanitation.

The annual party around the July Fourth holiday has attracted thousands of people to Torch Lake, northeast of Traverse City. More than 180 tickets were issued last year.

The Torch Lake Protection Alliance filed a lawsuit to stop the parties, saying promoters create a nuisance. The nonprofit promotes preservation of the lake.
