Lawmaker Wants Stricter Controls On Electronic Cigarettes After Injuries Connected To Use

LANSING (WWJ) - The head of the FDA can expect a letter in his mailbox from one Michigan congressperson.

Congresswoman Debbie Dingell is taking action against electronic cigarettes after a Wyandotte man was severely injured.

She's urging completion of a proposed rule that would regulate electronic cigarettes just as normal cigarettes are regulated:

Dingell proposes that manufacturers register with the FDA and report what ingredients are in the product.

This comes after her constituent, Sergeant Jason Diekman of Wyandotte, was recently severely burned by an exploding vape pen.
