Last Of 4 Teens Captured After Escaping Detroit Detention Center

DETROIT (WWJ) - Authorities say all four teens who escaped from a juvenile detention center on Detroit's east side last month have been captured.

Brian Manning, deputy director of the Wayne County Department of Health, Veterans and Community Wellness, said two of the teens were picked up by police on Wednesday, while the other two teens were apprehended last week.

Devonte Kenny, 17, was taken into custody Wednesday afternoon on Algonac Street in Detroit. Duane Stiff-Brown, 16, was apprehended Wednesday night.

Michael Robinson, 16, was arrested Sept. 1 in the area of Schaefer and 7 Mile Road, and Keynata Saxton, 17, was apprehended Sept. 2 in the area of Van Dyke and 6 Mile Road.

"We are grateful for the hard work of the Sheriff's Department and its Warrant Enforcement Bureau to ensure that the youth escapees were brought back into custody," Manning said in a statement.

The teens escaped from the Don Bosco DePaul Youth Treatment Center, located on Charlevoix at East Grand Boulevard, on Aug. 27.

According to police, guards opened the door to let visiting ministers exit the building when the boys rushed the door and knocked them down. The boys escaped on foot and went running in different directions.

Police say all four of the teens have been convicted of various crimes and were being held at the center "due to special needs."

Manning said an internal review concluded that center followed policy in handing the situation.

The escape remains under investigation.
