Lansing Woman Sentenced To Prison In 2-Month-Old Son's Death

LANSING (WWJ/AP) - A 24-year-old Lansing woman who pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in the death of her 2-month-old son has been sentenced to 27 to 60 years in prison.

Alexandra Alexi on Wednesday learned her punishment after earlier pleading guilty to the murder charge and first-degree child abuse, The Lansing State Journal reported. Alexi told the court that she takes full responsibility for what happened to her son but said she is "not a murderer."

According to an autopsy report, Julian Alexi's 2014's death was caused by complications from head trauma. He also had numerous broken bones.

"He was being fussy, and I couldn't calm him down," Alexi told the judge at a plea hearing.

Ingham County Circuit Court Judge William Collette says he's "still amazed at the brutality and the lack of remorse you've shown in this case."
