Lake Placid Out Of Running To Be "Hockeyville USA"

LAKE PLACID, N.Y. (AP) — New York's Olympic village is no longer in the running for the title of "Hockeyville USA."

First-round voting of the 10 finalists selected for the Kraft Hockeyville USA contest ended last week, and Lake Placid didn't make the cut.

Four towns did advance — Rapid City, South Dakota, and Minot, North Dakota, in the West, and Marquette, Michigan, and Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, in the East. Lake Placid and the five other towns eliminated will receive a $10,000 prize.

Lake Placid Olympic Center general manager Denny Allen says the money will be used for painting and drywall work. He says the grand prize of $150,000 would have gone toward energy efficiency projects.
