DETROIT (97.1 The Ticket) -- In a much-expected move, Detroit Tigers' designated hitter Victor Martinez will sit out of the All-Star Game in Minneapolis while he nurses his aching back.

In a corresponding move, Tigers' second baseman Ian Kinsler will take the vacant spot on the American League Roster, as announced by Major League Baseball on Friday.

Kinsler is now an All-Star for the fourth time in his career and his first year with the Tigers. Kinsler is batting .305 on the year with 11 home runs, 49 RBI, 26 doubles, nine stolen bases and 64 runs scored.

Kinsler joins fellow Tigers first baseman Miguel Cabrera and pitcher Max Scherzer on the American League's active roster. The 2014 All-Star Game will be played at Target Field on July 15.
