Kate Upton, Justin Verlander Officially Engaged
DETROIT (CBS Detroit) -- After years of dating in the public eye, Detroit Tigers pitcher Justin Verlander and supermodel Kate Upton are finally getting hitched.
E! News reported Monday that Verlander proposed to Upton with a custom-made ring that he designed himself. She showed the ring off at the 2016 Met Gala on Monday.
Upton told E! News that Verlander proposed to her right before the 2016 season started and the couple has been keeping it a secret.
"So I'm excited to finally be able to share it with the world!" she told E! News.
Verlander downplayed the idea that the celebrity relationship between the two is anything but down-to-earth.
"Kate's there a lot for me," Verlander told Forbes magazine. "And we're just normal people. You know, a normal relationship—believe it or not."
