Jury Selection Starting In Detroit-Area Police Beating Case

ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) - A blood drive and organ donor registry event at Michigan Stadium ended up collecting 404 units of blood.

The fifth annual "Be a Hero at the Big House" was Sunday in Ann Arbor and topped last year's collection total. Be the Match signed up 52 new registrants for bone marrow and Gift of Life and Eversight Michigan signed up 50 to the Michigan Organ Donor Registry.

It was part of the Blood Battle and Marrow Matchup fall challenges between the University of Michigan and Ohio State heading into the schools' Nov. 28 rivalry football game.

Each school tries to best the other in blood drive donations and registrations on a bone marrow registry. More than 30 blood drives are scheduled around the Michigan campus through Nov. 26.
