Judge Denies Group's Motion To Temporarily Stop Deer Cull
ANN ARBOR (AP) -- A federal judge has ruled against an Ann Arbor citizens' group seeking to temporarily stop the city's plans to kill up to 100 deer in parks over the next two months.
The Ann Arbor News reports that U.S. District Court Judge Arthur Tarnow in Detroit on Monday denied the motion by the Ann Arbor Residents for Public Safety.
The group has filed a lawsuit after the Ann Arbor City Council temporarily lifted an ordinance that restricts firearms in parks. It argues that the deer cull jeopardizes the safety of residents.
Ann Arbor wants to use sharpshooters to reduce the number of deer roaming around green spaces. Officials believe the deer population is out of control.
The special hunt has the approval of the state Department of Natural Resources.
