ALLEN PARK (CBS DETROIT) - Detroit Lions defensive lineman Jason Jones found out right before meetings Wednesday that his 7-month-old son Cannon would require emergency surgery.

Jones dropped everything and immediately left for the airport so he could fly to Nashville, where Cannon lives with his mother, Jones's girlfriend.

"Long story short, once I got the phone call, I was out of here," Jones said.

Last year a season-ending knee injury sidelined Jones for all but three games, but this season he has played in all 10 of Detroit's games.

He told local media his teammates gave him "words of encouragement" while he was away, and he felt happy to be "back to a normal life."
