Jeep Hit By Train After 'Super Drunk' Ferndale Woman Gets Stuck On Tracks

FERNDALE (WWJ) - A Ferndale woman dodged a train but not the law after her Jeep got stuck on the tracks near 9 Mile and Pleasant in Ferndale.

Sgt. Baron Brown says 28-year-old Noel Delahaye jumped out of her vehicle when it got stuck; and just a short while later the Jeep was hit by a train.

Delahaye tried to flag down other drivers for assistance by said she was ignored. She then called 911 and told police, mistakenly, that she was in Birmingham, delaying help. Eventually police figured out where she was and met her at the scene.

Brown said that's when her luck ran out.

"The officer noticed an odor of intoxicating beverages as she spoke," Brown said. "And he asked her to perform some field sobriety tasks which she was unable to successfully perform."

"She did submit to a breathalyzer and the result of that was a .19, so she was arrested for operating while intoxicated."

Under Michigan law, .19 BAC (blood alcohol content) is considered "super drunk." The legal driving limit is .08.
