It's Only A Drill: Firefighters Training At Selfridge Air National Guard Base

HARRISON TWP. (AP) - Firefighters at Selfridge Air National Guard Base in southeastern Michigan will be conducting "live-fire" training exercises this week.

The exercises are scheduled to take place Thursday to Sunday. They're designed to simulate a fire and rescue scenario involving an aircraft on the ground. Large plumes of smoke will be visible from the air base in Macomb County's Harrison Township.

Selfridge firefighters typically conduct two major training exercises a year involving live fires, one centered on structure fires and rescues and another focusing on aircraft. The fire department also conducts a number of other exercises, such as participating in a simulated industrial chemical accident response.
