Investigation Underway After Baby Girl Found Dead In St. Clair County

PORT HURON TWP. (WWJ) - Authorities are investigating the death of an infant in St. Clair County.

According to Sheriff Tim Donnellon, at around 3 am. Thursday deputies received a call about a 2 1/2 month-old baby girl not breathing and rescue crews rushed to the scene, at a home in the 4100 block of Dove Road, in Port Huron Township.

The 33-year-old father of the child told deputies that the baby was put in her bed about 11 p.m. Wednesday. When he woke up at around 3 a.m., he said he checked on the child, discovered she wasn't breathing and called 911.

The girl was taken by EMS to Lake Huron Medical Center where she was pronounced dead.

Detectives are investigating. No cause or manner of death has been determined, but no foul play is suspected, Donnellon said.

An autopsy will be conducted this weekend.
