Investigation Under Way After Teen Driver Killed By Sheriff During Traffic Stop

EATON COUNTY (WWJ) - Michigan State Police are looking into the shooting death of a motorist.

Deven Guildford, 17, of Mulliken was pulled over by an Eaton County Sheriff Sergeant for what police say was a routine traffic stop around 8:30 p.m. on Saturday.

According to police at some point during the stop the driver and officer got into a physical struggle on M-43 near Cochran and Guildford was shot by the officer.

Police state the sergeant involved in the fatal shooting was also injured.

State police officials are looking into the matter.

The family did not have a comment to WWJ.
