International Space Station To Fly Over Detroit On Christmas Eve

By Edward Cardenas

SOUTHFIELD (CBS Detroit) - Christmas Eve is a night when children look to the sky hoping to catch a glimpse of Santa Claus flying across the sky and Christians look for the Star of Bethlehem.

When families look to the sky tonight, if the cloudy sky clears, both children and adults will be able to see a star streaking across the sky.

What they will see is the International Space Station, which will be visible at 6:34 p.m. Wednesday for four minutes. It will appear in the northwest and will disappear in the east, southeast.

The station - with a crew of two women and four men - will appear as a bright star as it streaks across the sky nearly 220 miles above the earth at 17,500 miles per hour.

To learn additional times the International Space Station overhead visit the Spot the Station website.  For a view from space as the station orbits the Earth, visit NASA USTREAM page.
