Instagram Releases New Filters For Photo Sharing App

SOUTHFIELD (CBS Detroit) - The popular photo sharing and editing app Instagram has released five new photo filters for users.

Instagram, which has grown to 300 million users since it launched four years ago, which adds everything from different colors to a "haze" to photos.

"Photography trends have evolved, and the capabilities of the camera on your phone have vastly improved," according to a post on the Instagram blog. "We've seen tremendous creativity within the community, not only in the moments they share, but in the time spent carefully composing and editing photos and videos to bring out emotions and make them beautiful.

According to CNET, the new filters offer:

  • Slumber: Which adds haze and desaturates a photo for a retro dreamy look, with a particular emphasis on blacks and blues.
  • Crema: Adds a creamy look that both warms and cools the image.
  • Ludwig: A minimalist look with a hint of desaturation and enhances the light.
  • Perpetua: Inspired by Cape Perpetua in Oregon and gives photos a blue/green natural look
  • Aden: Ideal for portraits, this filter gives a pastel look and feel to images.

Instagram also updated the layout of the filters on the app with icons on the bottom of the screen now displays a blurred preview of the photo with its effect applied.

Users can also re-arrange the order of filters to allow a users to bring their favorite filters to the front of their filter tray and hide the ones they rarely use.
