Inmate Stabs Guard Several Times At Michigan Prison

BLACKMAN TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) - The state says an inmate used a prison-made weapon to stab a guard multiple times at a prison near Jackson.

The Michigan Corrections Department said Thursday that the guard was in a hospital but was expected to be released soon.

Department spokesman Russ Marlan says the attack happened at 3:45 p.m. Wednesday at the G. Robert Cotton Correctional Facility. It's in Jackson County's Blackman Township, north of Jackson.

Marlan says the inmate used "an ice pick prison-made weapon" to attack a resident unit manager at the prison.

He says authorities moved the inmate to a higher security prison.

The prisoner wasn't immediately identified.
