Suspect Arrested After Woman, 3 Kids Kidnapped At Knifepoint

INKSTER (WWJ) - A suspect is in police custody after he allegedly kidnapped an Inkster woman and her three children at knifepoint.

Inkster police said the man — identified as 28-year-old Wally Maxwell — took his estranged girlfriend and the kids from their home on Pierce Street, Thursday morning, and forced them into his 2012 Hyundai Elantra.

A brief manhunt ensued, until Michigan State Police said a trooper stopped the suspect along southbound I-75 near Luna Pier, in southern Monroe County, close to the Ohio border.

Police have not released further details, such as the children's ages or a possible motive.

No injuries were reported. Charges are pending.
