Impact100 Oakland County Awards First-Ever $100,000 Grant To Variety Feeds Kids Charity

BIRMINGHAM (WWJ) - A new women's non-profit that awards grants to Oakland County charities has announced the recipient of its first ever grand prize.

Impact100 Oakland County, an organization of women who use personal funds to provide substantial grants to nonprofit organizations, on Wednesday night awarded the grant to Variety the Children's Charity: Variety Feeds Kids.

Variety Feeds Kids, which was selected from among 39 applicants, provides nearly 1,000 Pontiac elementary students who are at-risk of weekend hunger with nutritious, easy to assemble meals.

"The food in the bag is to sustain the kids from the time they leave school on Friday until they come back to school on Monday," Variety spokesperson Kelley Shuert told WWJ's Chrystal Knight.

The grant will fund the purchase of weekend meals for an additional elementary school (approx. 330 children) in the Pontiac School District for three years.

The grant was a first for Impact100, an organization comprised of 100 women, each of whom donates $1,000 to support a grant of $100,000 to an Oakland County-based nonprofit. For more information, visit impact100oaklandcounty.org.
