'I'm Not Going Anywhere' Says Detroit Business Owner After Smash And Grab Robbery Destroys Store

DETROIT (WWJ) - A wild smash-and-grab robbery on Detroit's west side Monday morning and the target appears to be clothing.

A van plowed into the storefront of My Place Fashion on Greenfield near Schoolcraft Road.

The owner says roughly $30,000 in merchandise was stolen or damaged.

The owner, Keith Owens, has only been in business a few months and says he's planning to rebuild.

"I'm not going anywhere, I'm for the community. I'm a pillar to the community and I love my people - it's important to me. Help me get it back ya'll," said Owens.

William Jackson lives in the area: "You ain't got to rob nobody - especially the black man - why rob from the black man-- he's just trying to get his money out, trying to do better out here in the world, open up something for the community so you can afford some clothes -- ya'll got to rob him? That's crazy man," said Jackson.

Police say there was some blood at the scene. They think a second vehicle was used to carry the clothes from the scene.
