I-75 Ramp From I-94 Closed Due To Semi Crash, HAZMAT Cleanup

DETROIT (WWJ) - A busy freeway interchange in Detroit is closed Tuesday morning due to a HAZMAT situation following an accident involving a semi-truck.

The accident happened just after 3:30 a.m. on the southbound I-75 ramp from westbound I-94.

Authorities say a semi-truck carrying about 37,000 pounds of liquid refrigerant crashed and rolled over, spilling its contents across the roadway and into the sewer system.

Other circumstances surrounding the accident weren't immediately clear. The truck driver doesn't appear to be injured.

HAZMAT crews, local and state police, the fire department and officials from the Detroit Water and Sewerage Department are all on the scene.

It's unclear how long the freeway will remain closed. Drivers are urged to avoid the area.
