I-75 Southbound Ramp To Lodge Reopens After Fuel Spill

DETROIT (WWJ) - A major I-75 ramp was shut down for about an hour, Monday afternoon, due to a hazardous materials spill.

Diane Cross at MDOT says the southbound ramp to the Lodge freeway was closed at around 3 p.m. when, apparently, truck lost a load of about 50 gallons of fuel.

It was not immediately clear what caused the accident.

"Without knowing what happened, maybe there had been some type of a fender-bender and people just drove off, or whether or not the truck might have hit a wall or something like that," Cross said.

"It looked like the vehicle either didn't stop or was unaware of the loss, and so we're just aware that it's some kind of hazardous material; we do believe it to be gasoline," she added. "...All we know is that there's no vehicle but we've got fuel on the freeway."

The freeway reopened to traffic at around 4 p.m.
