1 Killed, 2 Injured After SUV Crashes Into Car Stopped In Center Lane Of I-75

HAZEL PARK (WWJ) - Police say a fatal crash happened on I-75 in Hazel Park after one vehicle stopped moving in the freeway's center lane.

The incident unfolded around 3:20 a.m. Thursday on southbound I-75 between 8 Mile and 9 Mile roads.

According to Michigan State Police, a Toyota sedan occupied by two men had stopped in the center lane of the freeway for an unknown reason when it was struck from behind by an SUV.

The driver of the Toyota was fatally injured, police said. The passenger of the Toyota was transported to Royal Oak Beaumont Hospital with serious injuries and the driver of the SUV was transported to Detroit Receiving Hospital with minor injuries.

Names of those involved have not yet been released.

Southbound I-75 was closed for nearly three hours while police investigated the scene, but has since reopened to traffic. Backups were reported for several miles.
