I-75 Shuts Down After Two-Semi Crash Spills 240 Gallons Of Fuel Onto Freeway [VIDEO]

ROYAL OAK (WWJ) - Authorities  shut down a section of I-75 in Royal Oak Thursday after two semi trucks collided with each other, creating havoc for morning commuters.

The crash, which also involved a passenger vehicle, happened around 7 a.m. Thursday on northbound I-75 at Lincoln, just north of the I-696 interchange. MDOT says the crash caused 240 gallons of fuel to spill out onto the freeway, creating a HAZMAT situation.

Other circumstances leading to the crash weren't immediately clear.

As a result, the northbound lanes of I-75 were closed to traffic for hours as crews cleaned up the mess. Motorists were urged to avoid the area. At one point, traffic is backed up for at least five miles; the crash was also impacting ramp traffic from I-696.

No injuries were reported in the crash.
