I-275 Drivers Getting A Break! Northbound Side Re-Opening Earlier Than Planned

DETROIT (WWJ) - Good news for drivers who travel along I-275 -- the northbound side of the highway should re-open by Labor Day.

According to the Michigan Department of Transportation, the northbound lanes of the freeway between M-14/I-96 and the I-96/I-696/M-5 interchange are now expected to open in early September. The construction had an original completion date of mid-September.

Crews have been working to replace 13 miles of pavement, repair 16 bridges, improve drainage, and fix entrance and exit ramps with the $75 million project.

M-DOT says after the main freeway opens, the ramps will still remain under construction.
