Hundreds Of Kids Have A Blast Getting Dirty At 'Mud Day' Event [VIDEO]
WESTLAND (WWJ) - Hundreds of kids turned out to Nankin Mills Park in Westland Tuesday for the 28th annual Mud Day.
It's a popular tradition: Parks workers turn on the fire hoses and make a big pit of mud.
The kids — and a few fun-loving parents — threw mud balls, sat down and ran around in the slimy stuff.
Taraya Carpenter of Hamtramck tried to practice her backstroke. "I felt like I was really swimming in a pool, but filled with mud and doodoo. It stinks, too!"
It was a first for Deborah Kidd, who brought her 5-year-old son, Caden.
"We did patty-cake in there, and we also pretended like we were in quicksand," Kidd said.
"We played games and we piled mud on top of us, and we made snow angels and ran through it," said 10-year-old Abigail Tracy, adding that the whole thing was "wet and disgusting."
"And wet and disgusting is good?" asked WWJ Newsradio 950's Sandra McNeill.
"Sometimes!" Abigail replied.
"You get to be messy for free...and you don't really have to worry about cleaning it up," Sidney Wallace added.
The rain didn't scare away too many people away, with some parents saying it made it easier to rinse the muck off.
