Hundreds Expected For Focus: HOPE's Annual Eleanor's Walk

DETROIT (AP) - Hundreds of people are expected to participate in Focus: HOPE's annual Eleanor's Walk fundraiser.

The event celebrates diversity and will begin Sunday at the nonprofit organization's campus in Detroit. It will include a 4-mile run.

About $324,000 was raised last year to support Focus: HOPE's food, education and community programs.

The walk is named after Eleanor Josaitis. Josaitis and the Rev. William Cunningham founded Focus: HOPE in 1968 after the 1967 riots that widened the rift between Detroit's black and white residents. Cunningham died in 1997. Josaitis died in 2011 at age 79.

The organization has job training, a food program for mothers, children and senior citizens, and numerous community development programs.
