HopCat Detroit Announces Grand Opening Plans For 130-Tap Bar

DETROIT (CBS Detroit) - Developers of the largest beer bar in Detroit - HopCat Detroit - announced Wednesday some of the festivities planned for the grand opening on Nov. 15.

Bellaire-based Short's Brewing Company will attempt a world record beginning at 11 a.m. with tap takeover of at least 101 different varieties of Short's beers.

Additionally, the first 200 customers ages 21 and up in line prior to opening will receive a card good for a free order HopCat's Crack Fries every week for a year.

"HopCat Detroit's opening will be our biggest yet, so we wanted to pull out all the stops and throw a party no one will soon forget," said Mark Sellers, founder of HopCat, in a release.

In addition to the food and tap takeover, Brooklyn-based Pitchblak Brass Band will perform a free show on its second floor. Pitchblak is a 10-piece hip-hop brass band that has played The Kennedy Center, Brooklyn Bowl, Le Poisson Rouge and Toronto's NXNE Music Festival, among others.

HopCat will be located at 4265 Woodward in the former Agave restaurant, which has been vacant since 2006. The new $3.3 million bar and entertainment venue is expected to bring 100 new jobs to the 11,000 square foot facility, and feature 130 taps.
