Homes Evacuated After Grenade Found During Search In Detroit

DETROIT (WWJ) - The Detroit Bomb Squad was called to a neighborhood on the city's west side after a suspected explosive was found.

Some homes in the area of Petoskey Avenue near Joy Road were evacuated after police said officers found what appeared to be a hand grenade. Police were executing a search warrant at a home in the 9000-block of Petoskey at around noon when the device was spotted.

Fire and EMS crews are also on site.

No injuries have been reported.

Police said the device was "scheduled for destruction."  They're not saying, at this time, why they were searching the home or to whom the grenade belonged.

An investigation is ongoing.
